MS Speech Pathology, Carlos Albizu University (August 2023)
Jordyn chose Speech Pathology because she wanted to be an advocate for those with
disabilities. Her cousin who was diagnosed with severe mental retardation and cerebral palsy
used to bite her when they were kids and she had no idea why. At around the age of 7, she
wanted answers and that is how she learned about Speech Pathology. She learned that her
cousin was just trying to communicate, and biting her was his way of getting attention. She
enjoys being able to help someone express themselves. Whether vocalizing or using a device, it
has always been her passion. She has experience working as a RBT utilizing ABA skills,
working with teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, and Prader Willi
Syndrome. She has worked with pediatrics for about two years; one year teaching toddlers in
daycare and another doing speech therapy in a clinic.
When she is not at work she is usually going to church and serving in the christ fellowship
special needs ministry. Her passion for special needs has been embedded with her daily life
activities. She runs a jiu jitsu camp every Saturday for adults and teens with special needs. She
loves to travel, explore nature and cook. In her down time she likes to listen to positive mental
health and wellness podcasts and read books.
